Hearty Chili

1 lb. ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped red or green pepper, optional
1 (28 oz) can diced tomatoes
1 (30 oz) can dark red kidney beans (undrained) (I use less)
1 (15 oz) can chili
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tsp salt
1 TBS chili powder
2 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 tsp. garlic salt)
1/2 tsp. pepper
1. Brown ground beef in a large heavy pan.
2. Add onions and peppers, cook until tender.
3. Add remaining ingredients and simmer, uncovered, over low heat for at least 1 hour.
Can be made the day before and reheated.
I like to brown the meat, add onions and peppers, then dump everything in the crockpot and let it cook on low until ready to serve.
